Hey WeGame,
We’ve been very busy cranking away on the site developing some cool features for you guys! Yesterday, we released two updates:
HD Video with H.264
WeGame will now encode your videos using the high-quality H.264 codec. H.264 provides crisper videos over the old Sorenson codec we were using. Please let us know how you like the new videos. A similar update will happen to the WeGame client in the near future.
E-mail Notifications
Now when someone likes/comments on your video, writes on your wall, or adds you as a friend, we will send you a short e-mail notification. If you would like to control what kind of e-mails you receive or want to disable them completely, just click the ‘Manage’ link in the e-mail.
Hope you enjoy the improvements! Keep your eyes open for more :)

The option to change notification settings is very nice. :)

Why exactly was the H.264 codec not used in the first place? Are all old videos going to be re-encoded with the new codec or is it going to be on the fly like Vimeo?
Some videos haven’t even transferred over to the new site yet, when will we see those?

HUGE improvement in video quality. Excellent job.

@MASA H.264 is only supported in Flash 9 and a decent portion of our user base was still on Flash 8 when we launched. Now that Flash 9 has majority market share and Flash 10 is the new official version, we decided to enable H.264.
Only videos uploaded from this point forward will be H.264 as we did not store originals when we initially launched.

And I thought flash videos couldn’t use other/specific codecs but had their own codec oO
Or is it just the player that’s flash and streaming other videos directly? Not flv but avi/ogm etc.
I like the HD :)
Also, options for customization are always nice.
2 things:
When I click the “I like” button in flash player, the site will refresh. If that could be avoided, that’d be nice.
If you watch a video in full screen, it stays in full screen after playback. That could and should be changed too I think, to go back to the page after playback.
If i mouse over the top menu, resulting in the drop down menu popping down till into the video, I won’t see the player anymore but only the background behind it. Not matter if it’s currently playing or not.

Hi, great quality on the site video’s now! Love it! (and once the bugs are worked out will beat anyone elses.. *cough*youtube*cough*)
One thing.. IF you add h264 encoding to the client, make it optional (its fine for playback.. ) as it is hard to edit the generated video clips as h264 is an end-user/playback codec.
thanks.

@Kissaki: Thanks for the suggestions. The top menu issue has already been solved today. You now need to click the arrow for the menu to drop down.
@PPNSteve: Thanks, we’re trying hard to make it perfect. The H264 encoding on the client will only happen on uploads from the client. The original file that is created by the client is still AVI, motion JPEG codec.
