In this case we might be preaching to the choir, but a recent announcment from Vimeo declared that they’d be deleting all gaming content from their site on September 1st, 2008.
Vimeo’s blog post lists several reasons, but most notable to me was the argument that “direct captures of video game play do not truly constitute ‘creative expression’.” While I agree that capturing an epic world-first raid with your guildmates isn’t the same “creative expression” as writing a poem, neither is the first staff picked video I looked at. I’m not opposed to kids playing in slow motion in inflatable pools, but really I don’t know if there’s any more creative expression to it than the aforementioned raid.
Ultimately, its Vimeo’s decision to make, and I appreciate their integrity to their vision for the site, even if I do feel it’s slightly misguided.
Former Vimeo users are, of course, welcome at WeGame. :D
